Affilations

Membership in the Council of Europe and European Union is reserved to States. Individual participation of natural persons in the European integration process is possible through affiliation with European institutions, as well as through their membership in associations, scientific communities and integration in expert networks.

The Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, has been promoting democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights since 1949. At present, it counts 47 Member Countries.

The foundation upon which was built the European Union we live in today was laid down in the 1957 Rome Treaty creating the European Economic Community (EEC).
